Mary Mae Stevens, known affectionately by her family as “Mema,” passed away on Monday, August 31, 2020 at the age of 92. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. A graveside service will follow at the Buffalo Gap Cemetery.
Mary was born near the banks of Beaver Creek in Manes, Missouri on May 8, 1928 to Warren and Ada Blackwell. She made many friends through her sales job with Mayfield Paper Company and her booth at Yesterday's Antique Mall. Her favorite hobbies were collecting antiques, working in her yard, spending time with her family, and writing letters to the editor of the newspaper. She was passionate about her family, her history, and her country. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Ada Blackwell, her brother Jim Blackwell, her sister Lillie Benham, and son-in-law Ronal Piland. She is survived by her daughter Linda Piland of Clyde; her son John Womble and wife Connie of Abilene; her grandchildren: Scott Piland and wife Melissa of Temple; Barry Piland and wife Shaylee of Abilene; Michael Piland and wife Brittany of Fort Worth; Jeffrey Womble and wife Amber of Abilene; Todd Womble and wife Abbey of Abilene; and her 9 great-grandchildren.
