On June 22, 1973 we walked thru the doors of Christian Homes of Abilene and met our first born son. We named him Michael Scott Minton and called him “Scottie”. He was born to a young lady in San Angelo, Texas on May 28, 1973 who wanted her new born son to have a good Christian home. So this blond, blue-eyed boy came into our lives, the first born son of Danny and Kathy Minton.
In November of 1973 the doctor told us Scottie had some major problems and suggested we give him back. We had a decision to make since the adoption wasn’t final, do we keep him or give him back for a healthy child. Our decision was to give our new son, Scottie, a good home and do the best we could to raise him. Later in 1974 he was diagnosed with Athetoid Cerebral Palsy and Microcephaly.
Even though Scottie was developmentally less than a year old, he enjoyed life for over 40 years in the Minton household. He loved movies, music, being read to and Christmas. He had an infectious laugh that spread to everyone around him. The son of a minister he moved around Texas living in Abilene, Baytown, Tyler, Lubbock, Plano and Pasadena. No matter where he lived he was loved and adored by everyone who met him.
There are certain people put here on this earth simply to bring joy in the lives of others. Scottie was one of those. The Bible calls them angels. On February 6, 2014 our angel ascended once again to be with the father. On this earth he could not talk or walk. Now he is freed from the body of this life and roams freely with the Father.
Scottie was part of the family of Danny and Kathy Minton of Abilene. He leaves behind a younger brother, Chris Minton, his wife Daniella Herrera Minton and two nieces, Liliana and Vivian Minton of Austin, Texas. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather, A. N. “Smitty” Minton, of Plano Texas. In addition he leaves numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Scottie was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Dorothy Minton, maternal grandmother, Kelly Kellogg, maternal grandfather Garland Kellogg and cousin, Hope Kellogg.
A memorial service will be held at the Southern Hills Church of Christ, 3666 Buffalo Gap Rd at 2:00 on Sunday, February 9th with the service conducted by Steve Ridgell, Richard Melton, Tim Yandell and Bob Benham.
Memorials in honor of Scottie can be made to Christian Homes of Abilene, Herald of Truth or Southern Hills Hope Chest. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
