William Fletcher Wilkerson, Jr.

William Fletcher Wilkerson, Jr., 85 of Abilene, passed away in his home on Saturday, May 6, 2017.  The family will hold a private memorial service for William at a later date.  Local arrangements under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

William was born in El Paso, Texas on October 8, 1931 to William F. Wilkerson, Sr. and his wife Georgia.  After some time in far west Texas, the family moved to Abilene where William, Sr. opened Wilkerson and Son Auto Body and Repair shop.  He would later join the United State Postal Service as a Postal Worker and was there until his retirement in 1990.  William pickup up many hobbies along the way including training and racing homing Pidgeon’s, growing Bonsai Trees and leading the Bonsai Club of Abilene, and making miniature worlds from rocks and small plants.

William was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Shirell Dean Wilkerson.  He is survived by his wife JoAnn Wilkerson and by his son, William Lynn Wilkerson and his wife Kay of Kyle, Texas and by 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
