Wanda June Dendy

June 20, 1926 — July 4, 2019

Wanda June Dendy, 93, of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2019 at Abilene Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.  A private family memorial service will be held in her honor.

Wanda was born on June 20, 1926 in Coleman County to Roscoe and Florine Miller; third to the oldest in a loving family of eight siblings.  She graduated from Mozelle High School a month shy of her 16 th birthday, as her teachers recognized her intellect and allowed her to skip ahead two grades.

Shortly after the untimely death of Roscoe, Florine and her eight children moved to Eastland, Texas to be near family. Wanda went to work at the Eastland Courthouse for Judge Earl Connor, Jr.  It was there that she met Tom Dendy.  They married on January 17, 1948 and settled in Abilene, where she attended Draughon’s Business College.

Wanda had successful careers with the State Comptroller’s Office for seventeen years and then fifteen years in the Engineering Department at West Texas Utilities until she retired.  However, she would tell you her proudest accomplishment was her family.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Tom Dendy, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her three daughters; Denise Jones and husband, Van; Dianne Davis and husband, Bill; D’Lynn Collard and husband, Tim; seven grandchildren; Jeffrey Jones, Jonathan Jones, Julianne Jones King, D’Anna Davis Uselton, DeLorean Davis Timmons, Christopher Collard and Kelsey Collard.  She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and three brothers; Glen Miller, Sam Miller and Victor Miller.
