Von Dean Carey Muncrief of Abilene, formerly of Colorado City, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2021. Funeral service will be Thursday, March 18, 2021, at 12:30pm in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. with interment to follow at Texas Veterans’ Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to Bill, her loving husband for 63 years. A visitation will precede the service at 11:00am.
Von Dean was born October 1, 1932 in Colorado City to John and Bernice Carey. She graduated from Colorado High School in 1950 and immediately went to work at City National Bank. She married Bill Muncrief in 1955 at the Looney Baptist Church. In 1958, she left City National Bank to become a full-time homemaker. She and Bill moved to several places including Delhi, Louisiana; McAllen, Texas; Laverne, Oklahoma and finally back to Colorado City where they made their home. Von Dean was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Colorado City and later Belmont Baptist in Abilene. Von Dean enjoyed teaching Sunday School, playing 42 and afternoon coffee with friends. Most of all, she loved time spent with her three daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved family gatherings with her and Bill’s extended families. Every gathering involved food and laughter, and she enjoyed cooking and baking for the occasion. Von Dean especially loved birthday celebrations and baked a homemade cake every year for Bill and the girls. No one would ever leave Von Dean’s hungry!
Von Dean will be missed so much by her three daughters, Sherri and husband, Rodney Merket, Terri and husband Joe Graves, and Billie and husband Beau Rees; her grandchildren Courtney and husband Josh, Connor and Carson; Kimberly, Natalie and husband Miguel, Jake Graves and wife Taylor; Hannah, Blyss and Reagan; her great grandchildren, Skyler, Jayden, Ryder, Jase, Trey, Christian, Nylah Von and Piper Joe. She is also survived by her sisters, Betty Maynard, Margaret Colley and Nancy Mayo, and one brother, Lyndal Carey; brothers-in-law Earl Muncrief and his wife Jean, Arnold Wayne Muncrief, Eddie Muncrief and his wife Pam. She also leaves behind a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
Joyfully greeting her in Heaven was Bill. He had told her he would be waiting for her with a bouquet of flowers. Also greeting her were her parents, her brothers-in-law Pat Maynard, Don Colley, Kelley Mayo and Walter Postoak; two sisters-in-law Stella Postoak and Betty Muncrief; nephews Chris and Bill Austin and a niece, Karen.
Our loving mother leaves behind a legacy of devotion to her family and will be greatly missed by her girls and everyone who knew her.
“A mother holds her children’s hands for a while, their hearts forever.”
Memorials may be made to Hendrick Hospice Care of Abilene for the loving care they provided to our mother in her final days.
