Troy Scoggins

September 23, 1942 — October 12, 2021

Troy Bennett Scoggins, of Abilene, passed away in Lubbock, Texas on October 12 th , 2021, at the age of 79.  Memorial services will be held on Saturday October 16, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Baker Heights Church of Christ in Abilene. A graveside service will follow at 3:00 pm at the Rule Cemetery in Rule, Texas.  A visitation with the family will be held on Friday evening from 5-6:30 pm at Piersall Funeral home at 733 Butternut Street.

Troy was born on September 23, 1942 in Knox City, Texas.  He grew up in Rule, Texas with parents Leroy and Loudell Casey and his younger sister Cathey.  His childhood consisted of going to school, working in the cotton fields with his Dad and running.  After graduating high school Troy went on to McMurry University where he excelled in track and field and met the love of his life Patsy Barnett. They were married on June 2 nd , 1964.

Troy and Patsy were blessed with four wonderful children; Suzanne, Anthony, Troy and Misty. Troy and Patsy were members of Baker Heights Church of Christ where Troy was baptized on February 9, 2009.  Troy found his faith later in life and came to be a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.  For many years, Troy was a car salesman and he retired from Rocket Oldsmobile in 2004.  He had a passion for running and spent much of his life training for races and track events. He even once ran in a 50 mile trail run.  But as much joy as running brought, his grandchildren and great grandchildren brought the most happiness to his life.

Surviving Troy are his wife Patsy, children Suzanne Bailey and husband Larry, Tony Scoggins and wife Karla, Troy Scoggins, Jr. and wife Dene’ and Misty Szatkowski and husband Mark, grandchildren; Kacie Oller and husband Rick, Anthony Scoggins, Mandy McKnight and husband Jonathan, Taylor Scoggins and wife Romy, Joshua Bailey, Riley Scoggins, Aaron Scoggins, Stephen Scoggins, Jordan Scoggins, Madeleine Szatkowski, Jonathan Scoggins and McKinlea Szatkowski, great-grandchildren; Mattie Mae, Noah, Wade, Pheobe Jeanne, and a sister Cathey Casey. He was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughters; Ashley Scoggins, Mikaylee Szatkowski and Melissa Szatkowski and his mother and father-in-law, Agnes and Raymond Barnett.
