Tommy Edd Dodson

November 8, 1943 — October 4, 2024

Tommy Edd Dodson of Abilene, Texas went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 4, 2024. A memorial service will be on Friday, October 11, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. A graveside service with honors will be at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. He was born on November 8, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas to Lemiel Winfred "Jack" Dodson and Lila (Flenniken) Dillard Dodson. Tommy was raised as the youngest of five children in Abilene, where he came to know the Lord at a young age, San Angelo, and Lufkin, TX. Upon leaving school, he entered into three years of dedicated service to his country through the United States Air Force, spending the majority of his time in Okinawa, Japan and throughout much of Germany. After his service in the USAF, he chose to serve his beloved country again through the United States Navy. Upon finishing his service in the military, Tommy married his forever sweetheart, Eugenia Faye (Johns) Dodson on March 12, 1982. He was a devoted husband to the "prettiest girl he'd ever seen", whom he "loved more than she could ever understand." Together they raised three children in the nurturing and admonition of the Lord, which he would tell you was one of his greatest achievements. Other achievements include almost 20 years of outstanding service with Pride Refinery, graduating with honors as a non-traditional student from Hardin-Simmons University at the age of fifty, working many years for AAA Vacuums, and serving his community through the Kiwanis Club of Abilene. Although he had many hobbies, his true passion was studying the Holy Bible and service to the Lord. Tommy was a faithful long-time member of Abilene Bible Church, where he spent many hours folding "Living Bible Studies" papers to send out the gospel message to those unable to receive it elsewhere; served many years in the Kairos Prison Ministry, sharing the gospel with his "Men in White"; and finished the race well as a member of Wylie Baptist Church where he enjoyed discussing and debating the scriptures in great detail with his Hart to Heart friends and defenders of the faith. We know without a doubt by the fruit of his life that he is now absolutely enthralled in the presence of God the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit as he is singing beautifully, seeing perfectly and breathing peacefully more than ever before. In John 17:26, Jesus says this, "I made Your name known to them and will make it known, so the love You have loved Me with may be in them and I may be in them." Jesus certainly made His name known to Tommy Edd Dodson, and used his faithful service to let the name of the Lord be made known to the furthest reaches of the world. Well done, good and faithful servant. You have run and finished the race well. He was preceded in death by his father, L.W. "Jack" Dodson, mother Lila Dodson, brother Gene Dillard and Billy Fay (Cary) Dillard, brothers Jack Dillard, and Warren Dodson, sister Betty June Dillard, great niece Lori Ann (Wellman) Hester, nephew Billy "Cowboy" Dillard and many more brothers and sisters in Christ. He is survived by wife Eugenia Faye (Johns) Dodson, son Travis Dodson, son Jason Dodson and his wife Margie (Townsend) Dodson, daughter Amanda (Dodson) McKee and her husband Ryan McKee, grandchildren Ashley (Dodson) Swan and Morgan, Brandon Dodson and Reanne, Chasady Dodson, Lila McKee, Lucas McKee, great-granddaughter Melody Dodson, and many other family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Discovery Center, Wylie Baptist Church Building Fund, or Wounded Warrior Project.
