CW4 Thomas Alan Frederick, 81, of Abilene, Texas passed away on Friday, May 17, 2024. Visitation will be held Friday, May 24, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street, and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the funeral home. Tom’s grandsons will be pallbearers for the service, and all members of the 490th Civil Affairs Battalion Unit will be honorary pallbearers. Burial will occur at a later date at the Veteran Cemetery. Tom was born in Flint, Michigan on January 1, 1943, to Albert and Marion Frederick. Raised by Everett and Marion Simmons, he was the youngest of six siblings. Tom entered the military in 1963 at the age of 19 and served a total of 39 years of service, including 4 years Active Duty in Vietnam and Fort Bliss, TX, and the remainder in the Army Reserves. He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 and Unit Administrator of the 490th Civil Affairs Battalion and held a civil service position as the Facility Manager of the Army Reserves Center in Abilene, TX. Throughout his military career, Tom found a sense of identity and profound fulfillment. His awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (3 Silver Oak Leaf Clusters), National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (w/ Gold Hour Glass), Army Service Ribbon, and the Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon (with numeral 13). As a Unit Administrator, he received outstanding performance ratings for 33 of his 35 years of service. Tom also remained active even in retirement. He could be found serving others in his community both as a friend and as a Property Manager for Adrian Properties. In his spare time, Tom was an avid golfer and an enthusiastic hunter, enjoying the outdoors with friends and family any chance he could get. He will be remembered as a diligent, hardworking man, always there to lend a helping hand. Tom is survived by his lovely wife of 45 years, Kay Sharon Frederick, and six children: Mark (wife Tina) and Todd (wife Emily) Frederick, Cecelia (husband Carlton) Burke, Cynthia (husband David) Maurel, Eddie (wife Penny) and Roland (partner Julie) Davis. He is also remembered by his sister-in-law Phyllis (husband Warren) Harkins, his brother-in-law Jim Ross, and 6 nieces: Debi (husband Jeff) Posner, Cindy (husband Rob) Hiller, Terri (husband Robert) Chavez, Gina (husband Kevin) Chrane, Bailey (husband Mark) Korzenewsky, and Kelci (husband Matthew) Hoffman. He was also “Gramps” to 16 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Marion, stepfather Everett, brothers Don, Roger, and Alan Frederick, and sisters Dolores Farran and Joyce Ross.
