Thomas Bergschicker

Thomas Frey Bergschicker, Sr., 79, of Abilene, TX, passed away June 15, 2021, at Hendrick Hospice Care Center. He was a resident of Northern Oaks rehabilitation center. Tom was born November 6, 1941, in Memphis, TN. He graduated from Memphis Central High School and attended Memphis State University/University of Memphis.

Tom worked for many years at Sears, Roebuck and Company as a buyer in home furnishings in Memphis and Chicago. Due to Tom’s entrepreneurial spirit, he left the corporate world to own and operate several small businesses. His favorite was his restaurant, Eats and Sweets, in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

Tom is survived by his former wife Jimmie Alice Clyde and their children Tom Bergschicker Jr (Debbie), Brenda Conder (Mark), and Beverly McCorkle (Dale) as well as his former wife Melanie Lindgren. Tom has eight grandchildren; Barbara Meredith, Tommy Bergschicker III (Amy), Billy Bergschicker, Brittany Seavers (Noah), Rebecca Price (Brad), Katherine Wright (Tim), Michael Conder, Eli Conder, BriAnna McCorkle and Reid McCorkle; and three great-grandchildren, Abe, Jaylen and Landon.

In his spare time, Tom and his family remodeled many apartment buildings in the Chicagoland area. He could tear them down and build them back up with the best of them. Tom also enjoyed the great outdoors through hunting and fishing.  His most treasured trophy was a black bear taken in Canada.  He enjoyed many hunting trips to Wisconsin, Idaho, and Canada.  He said he could see the creator through His creation. Over the years of hobbies and activities, nothing compared to enjoying family and friends. He enjoyed making holidays and birthdays special.  He especially enjoyed cooking Thanksgiving dinner and reading of The Night Before Christmas on Christmas Eve.

Tom Bergschicker Sr. worked hard, played hard, and loved deeply.  He will be greatly missed. The family will be celebrating in a private memorial in Memphis, TN.
