Steven Randall (Randy) Edgar

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven Randall Edgar, who left us on March 26, 2025, at the age of 73. Randy was born on April 17, 1951, in McCamey, Texas, to Rosalee and Edwin Edgar. He married Nancy Dannelley on August 11, 1979, in Florence Texas and they enjoyed over 45 years of marriage. He lived a life dedicated to his family and to education and mentorship, touching countless lives as a respected math teacher and coach. Randy taught for 7 years in Seminole and then spent 23 years with Abilene ISD.

Randy is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his son Nathan Edgar and wife Melissa of Lubbock; his daughter Alicia Vannoord and husband Rick of West Melbourne, Florida; and three grandsons who brought him great joy: Dalton and Collin Edgar and Luke Vannoord. He is also survived by his brother Rick Edgar and wife Cheryl; his sister Tracie Morgan and husband David; 9 nieces and nephews; and 13 great-nieces and nephews.

Randy was known for his unwavering commitment to his students and his passion for helping them succeed academically. Though he only coached for a few years, he cherished the title and continued to be “Coach Edgar” to all of his students. He was devoted to his wife and family and enjoyed playing golf, camping, and traveling. Randy was an active member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St., on March 28, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM. A funeral service to honor Randy’s life will take place at Hillcrest Church of Christ on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 9:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Florence Cemetery in Florence, Texas, at 3:00 PM.
