It is with great sadness on Sunday, September 25, 2022, Steven Simmons passed away peacefully from this life surrounded by his loved ones. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 1st at 11:00 am in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A time of visitation with the family will be held following the service.
Steve was born on November 16, 1951 to Trent and Annette Simmons in Colorado City. He grew up in Abilene with brother Phyl, sisters Anna Kaye and Melinda. He attended Alta Vista, Lincoln and Abilene High. After graduation, he followed in his father’s footsteps and worked in the oilfield where he excelled and became a toolpusher and drilling supervisor. Then he met his love Kathy and married in 1975. As they started their family, they traveled the state chasing that “Black Gold” before settling back home in Eula. In his free time, he really enjoyed hunting and fishing and barbequing with his friends and family. He was also a big fan of boxing and, in younger years, was a Golden Gloves champion. Above all, his biggest love was for his family, including his parents, siblings, wife, kids and especially his grandkids.
Surviving Steve is his wife Kathy, son Steven and wife Tessa, son Scotty, daughter Stacy Valdez and husband Andrew, grandchildren, Stetson Simmons and wife Adrianna, Austin Simmons, Slade Simmons, Morgan Valdez, Sloan Simmons, Summer Simmons, Blake Valdez, Peyton Valdez and Hudson Valdez and sister Anna Kaye Simmons. Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Phyl Simmons and sister Melinda Simmons.
