Steve Cisneros, 89 of Abilene, passed away at his home on Sunday, September 10, 2023. Funeral service will be Friday, September 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, with burial at 1:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene. Visitation will be Thursday, September 14th from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Rosary starting at 6:30 p.m.
Steve was born on December 26, 1933 in the small town of Seale, Texas to Martin and Ester Cisneros. He was the 5th of 6 children. Steve had to start working at an early age. At 15, he quit school to help his father support the family when two of his older brothers joined the army during World War II. Steve followed them in 1952 when he joined the Army, serving as a Tech Sargent until his discharge in 1955. Upon returning home, he started working as a construction worker for Rose Construction in Abilene. He was a self-taught mechanic and would later work for Abilene Axel and Spring before opening his own business. It was there his buddies would gather for a cold beer and some great conversation.
Steve was an avid baseball fan, playing with family and friends in an adult baseball league in Clyde. He loved the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys, and fishing and hunting. But his favorite hobby was his trips to the casinos, even though he denied ever winning much! He enjoyed a good Western, as well as episodes of the Andy Griffith Show, the Three Stooges, Sanford and Son, and The Cantinflas Show.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings and two great-grandchildren. He is survived by his 4 daughters, Mary Murillo (Sal), Esther Flores (Daniel), Cathy Hernandez (Sergio) and Yolanda Herrera (Arturo); 15 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.
