Shirley Ann Strickland, 84, of Hawley, passed away on Monday October 10, 2022, in the care of her loving family. A visitation with the family will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022, at 10:00AM, at the Hawley Church of Christ, followed by the funeral service at 11:00AM, and the burial at 2:00PM at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Shirley was born in Haskell, TX on February 3, 1938, to William Alford and Nola Fay (Medford) Fowler. She attended school in Haskell. She married the love of her life, Buster Leroy Strickland, Jr., in 1953, and faithfully supported Leroy's 34-year military career. She was a member of the Hawley Church of Christ. Shirley worked in various positions with the Hawley ISD for 21 years, retiring in July 1998. She enjoyed working outside the home, but her heart and soul were always focused on the love and care of her family. She enjoyed camping, making quilts, keeping up with her grand and great-grand children's activities, , and spending time with family.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, parents, her sister Mary Cartwright, three children and a grandchild. She is survived by her children; Jeff Strickland of Austin, Lori Taylor and husband Rodney of Hawley, Shannon Strickland and wife Kelly of Hawley; her Brother James and wife Bobbe Fowler of Lake Whitney, sister in law Vicki Medford and husband Danny, and brothers in law Jerry Strickland and Phillip Strickland; grandchildren Misty Mize and husband Chad, Roger Strickland and wife Amie, Stetson Taylor and wife Michelle, Stanton Taylor, Amanda Strickland and Kaity Strickland; great grandchildren are Tyler Mize and finance Megan George, Wes Mize and wife Kaili, Whitney Smith and husband JT, Ashley Wicklund, and Raylee Henson; and great-great grandchildren Emma Mize and Bonnie Mize and Amelia and Hank Smith, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are her nephews: Rodney Amonett, Kendell Medford, Chris Medford, Garland Medford, Lou Cartwright, Greg Fowler, Fred Fowler and David Martin; Honorary Pallbearers are her grandsons.
