Visitation will be on Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. in the Special Events Room of the Oldham Lane Church of Christ. Under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Shirley was born February 27, 1932, to Herman and Eva Jones, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She graduated as valedictorian from Foster High School in 1950. That fall, she enrolled in Abilene Christian College, becoming the first in her family to attend college. She quickly caught the eye of Jimmy Jividen. They were married on June 30, 1951, and began building their life of service together.
Her faith and love of God were evident as she began her life as wife and mother. Shirley shared Jimmy’s love of God and His church. She adapted to many areas of the country, small towns to big cities, California to Minnesota, and china to paper plates. Every challenge was met with her determination to do right.
She taught her children with faith and strength, demonstrating the importance of love and character. She was always confident in their abilities and was their constant supporter. When grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, they were blessed by her love and encouragement, as well. She delighted in them.
Shirley had a talent and a deep love for teaching toddlers. She knew they were capable of learning about God and His love for us. She loved watching them grow both in her class and on to adulthood with their faith in God increasing. After over 50 years of teaching toddlers, she decided it was time for her to pass the baton to others.
Music was always present in Shirley’s life. Some of her treasured times were spent in singing praises to God. She instilled this love to her family, and it remains an important part of their times together. She also taught her children and some of her grandchildren how to play the piano. Times with Nana playing the piano in family gatherings were always cherished.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, her parents, her brother (Charles), and her mother-in-law and father-in-law (Ruby and Harvey Jividen). She is survived by her children: Steve Jividen (Marta), Diane Huff (Dale), and Debbie McCoy (James). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
