It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved mother, Sharon Elaine (Johnson) Proctor, on May 2, 2024 at the age of 80. Sharon was born on August 1, 1943 in Fairfield, Illinois to Herb and Doris (Robinson) Johnson. The family moved to Abilene, Texas soon after where she spent the rest of her life and was the eldest of three sisters (Katy Johnson Bruce and Janie Johnson Proctor). She was a proud graduate of Abilene High School and attended McMurry College. She married her longtime schoolmate Bill Proctor on April 18, 1964 and they were married for 42 incredible years.
Sharon was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her parents, Herb and Doris Johnson, and her sister, Katy Johnson Bruce. She is survived by her sister, Janie Proctor of Abilene, Texas; her sisters-in-law, J’Lynn Proctor of La Grange, Texas and Cherry Proctor of San Antonio, Texas; her three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cindy Proctor of Georgetown, Texas, Bill and Shannon Jenn of San Antonio, Texas, and Mark and Susan Proctor of Colorado Springs, Colorado; her 14 grandchildren Kirsten, Cody, Kaleb, Katelyn, Joshua, Stephen, Micah, Mary Elizabeth, Rebekah, Jackson, Faith, Joy, Josiah, and Matthias; her 3 great grandchildren, Scout, Riley, and Palmer; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Sharon was a daughter, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a Grammy, and a Mimi. Her passion was to be a mother, not only for her sons, but for all the children and adults she met working in Abilene ISD, mostly as an elementary school nurse. She loved traveling with family, whether down the road to Six Flags in Arlington with her kids, up to Illinois to visit relatives, or to enjoy the outdoors in the mountains of New Mexico, Colorado, or Wyoming. Her time spent living in the country on the ranch with her husband and raising her boys truly helped her learn lessons that she would apply for the rest of her life. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends. Visitors often kept her company in her kitchen where it’s not unusual to still get a whiff of her delicious fried quail or her amazing peach cobbler. Her recipes and kindness will continue to thrive with those she loved.
