Obituary for Ronny Gene Crumpler
July 5, 1943 – October 9, 2024
Ronny Gene Crumpler was born July 5, 1943 in Lamesa, TX to Otis and Zula Crumpler. He attended school in Lamesa until 8th grade and then moved to the country near Anson, TX. Ronny graduated high school from Noodle, TX in 1961.
Ronny Crumpler and Darlene Townsend were married on February 9, 1964, in Cisco, TX. Ronny began his career at Wyatt's Grocery in Anson, TX, and in 1965, he became a meat cutter with Safeway in Abilene, TX. The couple moved to Colorado City, TX in 1966, returned to Abilene for a year, then spent five years in Snyder, TX, and two years in Big Spring, before settling back in Abilene in 1974, all while with Safeway, where they lived for over 50 years. After Safeway closed, Ronny worked at both Village Market in Clyde and Village Market in Cross Plains as a meat manager, and then as a buyer for Independent Grocery for a year. His last job was at A-Town/Hi-Tech Cleaning and Restoration, retiring in December 2012. He took care of Darlene until she passed. Ronny loved to spend time with his family, friends, and church family. Of course, let’s not forget he loved to fish!
Ronny was a true servant of God. He was a member of Southern Hills Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for several years and as an elder for ten years.
Ronny was preceded in death by: Parents, Otis and Zula Crumpler; Wife, Darlene; and three brothers, Adell, Maurice and Hoke Crumpler. He has two surviving daughters: Sheila Hilburn and husband, Wes Hilburn, of Waxahachie, TX; Cindy Allen and husband, Jason Allen, of Midlothian, TX; and “adoptive daughter” Fredda Christopher and husband, David Christopher, of Saginaw, TX. Ronny has three granddaughters: Cameron Hall and her husband, Jared Hall; Mikayla Kendall and husband, Jeff Kendall; Kailee Allen; and “adoptive granddaughters” Madison Gollahon and her husband, D.J.; and Sydney Christopher. Ronny has one surviving grandson, Kyle Allen. He also has three surviving great grandchildren: Ryan Kendall, Stevie Kendall, and Weston Hall along with several nieces and nephews.
