May 29, 1940 — February 27, 2025

Roma Lee Mays Aberegg went home to our Father in Heaven on the 27th of February, 2025. A visitation will be on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.  Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. and burial will be a 1:00 p.m. at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.

Roma Lee, or Messel as her parents and brothers called her, was born in Big Spring, Texas on the 29th of May, 1940 to Romy Luther and Nora Lee Morren Mays. Roma Lee attended school in Coahoma, Texas and graduated from Coahoma High School in 1958. She then attended Business College in Midland, Texas. While working at the Coahoma Drug Store in 1959, Roma Lee began dating the love of her life, Tommy Aberegg. They married on May 27, 1960 and were blessed with 54 years together. They were blessed with two daughters, Tommye Lee (T. Lee) and Kimmy Sue (Kim).

After lovingly raising her daughters, Roma Lee worked at Reid Brothers Oil in Coahoma, Texas and then at Abilene Christian University after the family moved to Abilene in 1977. She was a member of University Church of Christ where she lovingly taught bible classes for the preschool age children. Roma Lee loved to read and she enjoyed being a member of the Jean Marsh Book Club. She not only was a member of the Women of Abilene Christian University (WACU) but also served as treasurer for many years.

Roma Lee was a servant of our Lord and Savior and served others to glorify Him. She loved to reach out to others with her card ministry and to serve others by providing home cooked meals and was known for her baked goods.

The joy of her life was her grandchildren. She loved spending time with them and creating special memories. She always made sugar cookies at Christmas time for the grandchildren to decorate. She made sure each grandchild felt special by taking time to do activities that each one of them enjoyed. She was a wonderful, loving Granny.

Roma Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Aberegg, her parents, Romy and Nora Lee Mays, her in-laws, Lawrence and Marguerite Aberegg, her brother Jimmy Luther Mays, a niece, Mary Grace Jackson and a great nephew, Romy James Lacombe. She is survived by her daughters Tommye Lee (T. Lee) Rodgers and husband Richard, Kimmy Sue Pharis and husband Russell, grandchildren, Tate Pharis, Taylor Pettyjohn and husband Tate, Dalee Hallmark and husband Jeremy, Christian Rodgers, Koby Rodgers and wife Jamie, Kandice Nitsch and husband Bear, brother Dennis Mays and wife Becky, sister-in-laws Judy Latimer and Dorinda Mays, three great grandchildren, Kaeden Nitsch, Brody Nitsch and Jasper Nolan Hallmark, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
