Roger Decker

August 10, 1938 — March 28, 2022

Roger Edward Decker, 83 years old, of Abilene Texas, passed peacefully in his sleep Monday, March 28, 2022. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Roger was born in Calexico Imperial California on August 10 th , 1938 and was the oldest of five.  After graduating high school, Roger attended Abilene Christian University where he met Janice who became his wife and they celebrated marriage for 59 years.

Roger was a school teacher for Abilene ISD for more than 30 years and loved the many young people he was able to educate.  He brought joy and laughter to all who knew him and was known for his silly humor and wit. Roger was a member at Hillcrest Church of Christ for more than 45 years and served in many capacities. Roger was always eager to help his family whenever they had a need and enjoyed taking care of his 6 grandchildren. He also enjoyed the many holidays and gatherings he spent with family. He will be dearly missed but his family finds comfort knowing he is at peace.

Roger is survived by his daughters Emily Rene’ Harrison and Susan Jeanette Hoemke, his sisters Doris Laura Ann Rickards of Sacramento California and Darlene D. Wheeler of Manteca California and 5 grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his wife Janice, his parents Roger Wesley Decker, and L’arie Lillian Campbell, sister Lillian Shirley Waldon, brother John Wesley Decker, and grandson Hayden Richard Edward Hoemke.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 16th at 11:00 am in the Chapel at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.  Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com .  The family requests that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in honor of Roger to Hendrick Hospice Care @ www.hendrickhealth.org/services/hospice-care/give-now/.
