Robert C. Swaim

January 22, 1932 — October 24, 2017

Robert Carroll Swaim, 85 of Abilene, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.  A memorial service to honor his life will be held at the Hillcrest Church of Christ on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m.

R.C. was born on January 22, 1932 in Fort Worth, Texas to James and Letha Swaim.  He was raised on a dairy farm just outside of town and later attended Poly High School, where he graduated in 1950.  R.C. then ventured to Abilene to attend Abilene Christian College for a year before joining the U.S. Army and serving in the Korean War.  Following his 2 years of service, R.C. returned to ACC to finish his degree.  It was there he met Marylyn Fletcher.  The two were married in 1961 and they stayed in Abilene for several years before moving to Waco.  Once in Waco, R.C. started working for Central Texas Iron Works as a computer programmer and for First Financial.  But it was his work helping to start Waco Christian School that he was the most proud of.  He served as the President of the Board for many years and was the President of the Waco Mental Health Mental Retardation.  In 1995, R.C. and Marylyn returned to Abilene to work for Christian Homes of Abilene.  Once R.C. decided to retire, he would spend the rest of his life enjoying and taking care of his family.  He had a deep faith his entire life and was very active in the church wherever he and Marylyn lived.  He always put others before himself and was dearly loved by all that knew him.

R.C. was preceded in death by his parents, James and Letha Swaim; his brothers Jack, Eddie and Charlie and his son-in-law, Kelley LaSueur.  He is survived by his wife Marylyn and his children, Shery, Janice and Rob; and his grandchildren, McKenzie, Makenna, Ellie, Addi and Eli.
