Robert William Higgins, aged 63, passed away peacefully at his home on November 15, 2024, in Abilene, TX. Born on March 3, 1961, Robert, known affectionately as Bill, dedicated many years to serving his country in the Navy before retiring in 1995. After his military career, he transitioned to a fulfilling role in Industrial Maintenance, from which he also retired. Bill was a man of many passions, notably his love for woodworking, golfing with a Keystone Light in hand, and spending quality time outdoors. He was a devoted family man, often found hosting backyard cookouts, or camping and fishing with his grandchildren, to whom he was the best Papa. Bill never missed a game, concert, or event that involved his grandchildren, truly embodying the family's pillar of support and love. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Melissa (Lisa) Massey Higgins; his children, Sarah LoRee Higgins of Abilene, Christopher Michael Higgins and wife Katie of Michigan, and William Kirtly Higgins of Arkansas; stepdaughters Britteny Ashton and husband Waylon, Kristin Gwinn and husband Justin, Bryhana Ashton and husband Tyler of Abilene, and Kaily Brooks and husband Ryan of Wichita Falls. He is also survived by his sister, Denease Higgins Burnett and husband David of Colorado; brother, ED Higgins of Wyoming; sister, Suzette M Thomas of Texas; along with 22 grandchildren and 9 nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by Cordus and Mary Thomas, Robert and Velda Higgins, and sister LeaAnne Higgins Harkleroad. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21, from 6-8 PM. The funeral service, preformed by Pastor Joseph Driscoll, is scheduled for Friday, November 22, at 11:30 AM at Piersall Funeral Directors, followed by a graveside service at the veterans cemetery. Bill's life and legacy will be remembered as one of service, devotion, and unconditional love for his family and country.
