Bob Warner, 95, of Abilene, TX, entered into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, December 28th, 2024. Piersall Funeral Directors will direct the funeral service on Tuesday, December 31st, at 10:00 AM at the University Church of Christ.
Bob was born in Winston-Salem, NC, to Aubry and Ada Warner on June 13, 1929. Although he was born on Friday 13th, during the year of the stock market crash and the great depression, those factors did not diminish his hopeful outlook for the future. Bob graduated from Clemmons High School in 1949 and married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Cheek, in 1950. He then worked with his father at the family-owned feed and seed store. They welcomed their first child, Steve, in 1952 and then their daughter, Lisa, in 1955. In 1957, they moved across the country to Texas to enroll at Abilene Christian College (ACU). After graduating in 1961 with an education degree, he began teaching and coaching 6th grade at Alta Vista and later Jane Long Elementary Schools. Later, he completed his master’s degree and became principal at College Heights and Lee Elementary Schools. During his 31 years of service at AISD, he formed many lasting friendships. Everyone who knew Bob would describe him as kind, humble, respectful, with a gentle, loving spirit.
From the young age of 16, golf was his passion. During his lifetime, he played 236 golf courses, had 4 hole-in-ones, and shot less than his age more than 350 times; his lowest score was 68. He enjoyed playing golf through his 95th year. Bob and Mickie loved to travel and did so all over the world. They shared a love for the beach and the Blue Ridge Mountains. He took great pride in his yard. He was very competitive and loved beating the kids and grandkids in games and croquet. He never turned down an opportunity to play football, as he was a member of the first 6-man football state championship in North Carolina. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
He was a longtime member of the University Church of Christ (67 years). His faith was deeply meaningful to him. His relationship with Jesus shaped the way he lived his life. Bob loved all his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Bob and Mickie’s house has always been the hub for the family to gather.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife Mickie, his parents Aubry Perry and Ada Warner, his sister Ethelene, and brothers Bud, Leroy, and Clunette. He is survived by his son Steve Warner & daughter-in-law Karen Warner, daughter Lisa Miller & son-in-law Al Miller; grandchildren Julie FitzGerald & husband James; Aaron Miller & wife Elizabeth; Chad Warner & wife Haley; Austin Miller & wife Connie; Elissa Brown and Sara Bordeaux. Plus, nine great-grandchildren!
