Rita Ann Bottoms

July 17, 1935 — October 15, 2024

Rita A. Bottoms was a cherished member of the Abilene community, known for her warm smile and kind heart.  She was born in Anson, Texas on July 17, 1935, to Mamie Womack and Louis Ray Bottoms.  Rita lived a full and vibrant life, touching the hearts of all who knew her.

Rita lived an interesting life, living in some very unique places. One of her favorites was her time living in Mexico City. She received her Master's of Education Degree from Abilene Christian University. She spent several years teaching in the south Texas area.  She worked with students whose second language was English. Being fluent in Spanish, creative in spirit, with an impressive imagination, and love of children, she was very successful in her teaching career.

On October 15, 2024, Rita peacefully passed away at Hendrick Hospice Care Center. Her presence will be deeply missed by her many extended family members and friends. She is survived by one brother, Charles Bottoms and his wife Gaye, one sister, Genny Dyes and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Mamie Bottoms, sister, Jamie Phillips, sister, Linda Curtis, brother Johnny Bottoms and brother-in- law Jerry Dyes. Rita's memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to have known her.

In honor of Rita's life, a graveside service will be held at Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson, Texas on Friday October 25th, 2024 at 12:00 pm. The family requests that donations be made in honor of Rita to Highland Church of Christ Food Pantry.  The church address is 425 Highland Ave, 79605 or they can go to highlandchurch.org and add in the memo that it is for the food pantry in Rita’s honor.
