Wayne Dill

October 20, 1936 — April 13, 2022

Wayne Dill of Abilene, Texas transitioned to his heavenly home on April 13, 2022, with his loved ones by his side.  In accordance with his wishes, a graveside celebration of his life will occur on May 13 th at 1:00 pm followed by military honors at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery of Abilene.

Richard “Wayne” Dill was born in Abilene, TX to William AudaVee Dill and Ruth Pauline Kerby Dill on October 20, 1936.  The Dill family has rich traditions in Abilene, TX where Wayne was raised and attended school.  In the late 1800s, his Great Grandfather William was one of the earliest merchants in Abilene.  Wayne served his country on two tours of duty in both the Korean War and the Cuban Missile Crisis.  Wayne’s position as the trusted driver for 4-star general Carter B. Magruder in the Korean War was a great honor to him.

Following his military service, he lived in several locations from California to Florida and served in many positions in which he had many great adventures and stories.  He often talked fondly of his role as Truck Supervisor for Scurlock Oil Company.  Wayne returned home to Abilene Texas about 30 years ago following a cerebral hemorrhage.  He has one sister Ruth Ann “Pat” Holladay who has been his devoted caregiver these last three decades.  Living with his sister, a deep family bond developed with his nephews and their children.  He loved sharing stories and spending time with his family.

Wayne is survived by his sister, Ruth Ann “Pat” Holladay: his nephew, Theron Robert Holladay Sr. and wife Robynn: his nephew, Jeffrey “Wayne” Holladay and Crystal: his grand-nephews and nieces, Kate, Theron Jr., Ian, Morgan, Kohl and Ella Holladay, and Elena and Samuel Blackraven:  his children, Ricky, Tom, Roy Dill and their wives and children.
