Peggy Wainscott was born on the family farm 5 miles southeast of Hamlin, Texas on May 10, 1929 to George and Ruby (Cantrell) Wainscott. She lost her mother at age seven, but gained a wonderful stepmother, Maggie.
She left the farm when she married David Higgins on November 13, 1949. They have two sons, Carl and Stormy.
She was known and will be remembered as a great mom, a sweet grandmother and aunt, a wonderful cook, a generous friend, a caring neighbor, and a servant of her Lord Jesus Christ.
She enjoyed serving people in a 23-year career with State Farm Insurance after her sons left home. In retirement she loved to be outside every day the weather permitted tending her yard and garden. Never one to have idle hands in the winter she made quilts.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, stepmother, her sister Mary Ellen and brothers Thomas, Weldon, Wayne, Nathan, and Jimmy, and her husband of 69 years, David.
She is survived by a sister Gay Nell Peters, sons Carl and Stormy, her daughter-in-law, Kacey, a grandson, John and his fiancé, Amanda, a granddaughter Amy Forrest and her husband, Brandon, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Peggy slipped into the arms of Jesus in Abilene, Texas, September 24, 2024. Her soul has returned to its maker and her remains will be buried with those of her husband after a graveside service at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas, on October 1, 2024, at 3:00 pm.
