Celebrated educator, Peggy Lou Hollis Drennan, 83 of Abilene, Texas passed away at her home on February 7, 2020. A visitation will be held Friday, February 14th from 5:30-7:00 pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street, Abilene, Texas. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 15th at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the funeral home.
Peggy was born in Duncan, Oklahoma in 1936 to Ottis Wyatt Hollis and Mary Lenora Uzzel Hollis. She was raised in Countyline, Oklahoma and graduated from Velma-Alma High School (1954). Peggy was offered a full scholarship in Music to Oklahoma University where she started her college education. The next year she transferred to Abilene Christian University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education (1959). She continued her studies at Abilene Christian obtaining a Master’s in Counseling (1963).
Peggy married Jerry Dale Drennan of Seminole, Texas on February 23, 1957 in Abilene. Together they raised their family in Abilene where Peggy was the music teacher at Taylor Elementary and later an assistant professor of Music Education at ACU. Peggy and Jerry have been decades-long members of the South 11th and Willis Church of Christ as active supporters of the congregation’s World Missions committee.
She was preceded in death by her parents Ottis and Lenora. Peggy is survived by her husband Jerry Drennan, sons Hollis Drennan, Cohn Drennan and his spouse Catherine Drennan, Hollis’ children Cohl, Alexandria, Nicholas and Faith, Peggy’s cousin Eloise Ann Berlin as well as many extended family members, faithful friends and beloved former students.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Sam’s Place, the church sponsored Kenyan orphanage for the deaf. Funds can be issued to South 11th and Willis Church of Christ in Abilene with a memo to Sam’s Place. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
