Peggy Joyce Melton Allen, beloved mother, granny, great-granny, and great-great granny passed away at the age of 93 on August 23, 2024. She was born in Grayback, Texas on July 28, 1931.
She married Doyle Dean Allen on June 9, 1949, in Breckenridge, Texas. Over their 63 years together, they raised four children and had a true partnership in businesses as well as in marriage. In Odessa, they owned and managed Allen’s Kwik Shop for 17 years and Allen’s Golf Shop for five years. After moving to Abilene, they owned and managed Allen’s Food Store for five years. Peggy loved to watch and play with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She liked watching Wheel of Fortune, listening to gospel music and visiting on the phone. Even in the end when her memory was in the past, she received a daily call from her niece Edna Bailey in Breckenridge and her good friend Nell Hopper of Abilene. She was a member of the Westgate Church of Christ.
She is preceded in death 12 years to the day by Doyle Dean Allen (August 23,2012). Her parents Benjamin Harrison Melton and Edna Mae Melton, her brothers James Melton, George Melton, and her sister Jo Ann Perry along with son-in-law, Ervel Quinn and great-granddaughter Summer Quinn.
Peggy was extremely sweet and kind, leaving an indelible mark on her family and community. She is survived by daughters Janita “Susie” Quinn of Rowlett, Deana Kay Frazier of Abilene, her sons, Barry Don Allen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Billy Joe Allen (wife Kim) of Keller, Texas. Grandchildren: Johna Hodges, Amy Singer (husband Jared), Jason Rippy, Jason Quinn, William Frazier, Jessica Allen, Jared Allen (wife Harley), Jacob Allen (Ashley King), Katelyn Campbell (husband Micah), and Bryce Allen. Also surviving her are 12 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson, along with nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at Westgate Church of Christ on Thursday, August 29th, 2024 at 10:30 am with a graveside to follow at 1:00 pm at the Texas State Veteran Cemetery. A visitation with the family will be held Wednesday evening from 5-7 pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.
