Pauline Stewart of Abilene, Texas, joined her Savior, family, and friends in Heaven on October 21, 2022. Pauline was born January 18, 1928, to John Benjamin Lynn and Etta Mae (Covington) Lynn on their farm in Hylton, Texas. She was a graduate of Blackwell High School.
She married E.L. Stewart in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1990. They had seven children: Texx (Deborah Stewart), Gloria (Larry Boone), John (Troylene Stewart), Tom Stewart, Steve (Yvonne Stewart), Pam (Charles Daniels), and Sherry (Janford Pate). Pauline is also survived by nine grandchildren: Ben (Giovonne), Brittany, Chris, Amy, Travis, Kate, Dusty (Sean), Sandy, and John. Also surviving are her nephew Michael and nieces Vickie and Diana. Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, her aunt, Opal Covington, and two siblings: W.O. (Jack) Lynn and Lavern Ash.
Pauline worked at Langford Sewing Factory, then at TG&Y stores. After retiring at 65, she wanted to stay active and began carrying out groceries at the then-new HEB grocery store in 1991. She worked at HEB over 26 years until after her 90th birthday, when a bad fall forced her retirement. She was featured several times in local media for her outstanding work ethic and customer service and was considered by many to be an HEB icon. She was there in all kinds of weather and could outwork her younger co-workers! She was loved by many of the customers she assisted over the years. She felt that her work was a ministry - giving a smile, a listening ear, and often a hug, especially to the lonely and elderly.
She became a member of Highland Church of Christ in 1973, where she was much loved for her friendly smile and sweet nature. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed gardening and bowling. She loved watching "her" Rangers baseball team and was a Cowboys football fan.
After retiring from HEB, she lived at University Place in Abilene and was blessed with wonderful caregivers from Home Instead. Hendrick Hospice of Abilene also provided tender care.
A few weeks before her death, she prayed that all would trust in the Lord and join her in Heaven later. She said Heaven was a happy place, and she was looking forward to it.
