Paul Joseph Wilson was born in Abilene, Texas, on August 19, 1947. He passed from this life on July 16, 2022. He was a lifelong resident of Abilene and was a lifelong member of the Abilene Christian University family. Paul's parents were Woodrow Wilson, who was a Bible professor at ACU, and Ruth Wall Wilson, who was an administrative assistant in the ACU Graduate School. He lived on the ACU campus almost all of his growing-up years.
Paul attended Abilene Christian Campus School from first through twelfth grades. He graduated from Abilene Christian High School in 1965. He earned a Bachelor's degree in business from ACU in 1969. He was employed by the Registrar's Office at ACU from his college years through 1992, eventually becoming the Assistant Registrar.
Paul loved the city of Abilene; his hobby was keeping up with the new construction and growth of the city. He also loved ACU sports of all kinds and sometimes served as a scorekeeper at games. He was a treasure trove of sports trivia, especially those concerning ACU.
Paul was a gentle man with a kind and empathetic heart. He was happy serving in the background without public recognition. He was baptized into Christ in his early teens at College Church of Christ. In his later years, he was the ideal caregiver for his parents as they struggled with health issues.
Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Linna Ruth Wall Wilson, in 2004, by his father, Vernon Woodrow Wilson, in 2006, and by his grandparents W.A. and Rose Wilson, and Porter and Verlin Wall. He is survived by his only sibling, Mary Lois Wilson Gibson and her husband L.E. "Gib" Gibson. Several cousins also survive him.
A private family graveside will be held at a later date.
