Pamela Lee Barnhill, 64 of Abilene, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at a local medical facility. A memorial service honoring her life will be on Friday, November 4, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.
Pamela was born in Abilene on April 27, 1958, to Floyd Denzell and Mamie Pauline Mims. She married David Barnhill on August 23, 1986, in Abilene’s Nelson Park. She and David championed the rights for the disabled here in Abilene, serving on the boards with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Not Without Us and working with the City Link Bus system to make sure people with disabilities could find their way around the city easier. They also co-founded the Master’s Handi-capable Fitness Center and worked with the Abilene City Council to ensure sidewalks are available in high traffic areas so that handicapped citizens can lead more independent lives.
Pamela was preceded in death by her parents, sister Jan Hall and her husband, David. She is survived by her son Forrest Barnhill of Abilene and brothers Dennis Mims and wife Janey and Gary Mims and wife Cindy, all of Abilene and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
