Lifelong Texas resident, Nollie Marie (Willis) Brown, died peacefully Thursday August 23 , 2018 at her Lewisville Estates home in Dallas. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 29, 2018 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene. Services under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Brown was born October 3 rd , 1931 in Kingsland Texas to Floyd and Seth (Tedford) Willis. She graduated from Abilene High School in 1950, and went on complete her studies at Abilene Christian College and Harding University. In 1952, Mrs. Brown enlisted in the U.S. Woman’s Army Corp. She served honorably in occupied Germany during the Korean conflict, rising to the rank of Sergeant. It was in Heidelberg, Germany where she met Oscar Glenville Brown, US Army M.P.C.I.D from Orlando Florida. They married August 25 th , 1956 in Orlando and moved to Clyde Texas in 1963. Mr. and Mrs. Brown owned and operated Circle B Farms in Callahan County, Cottage Kindergarten, and Cottage First Grade (private school) in Clyde, Texas.
In 1975 , Mrs. Brown joined the staff of the Abilene Christian University Library. Although her primary role with the University was librarian, her greater role was that of life mentor and substitute mom. For decades, the young men and women who passed through the doors came to the library not only to focus on their studies, but also to be consoled, counseled, guided and comforted. Upon retiring from the University to care for Mr. Brown during his final days in 1994, Mrs. Brown returned to her passion for education at Madison Junior High and Abilene High School.
Her passion for education, her love for children and her Lord was her lifetime career.
Through the years she was a faithful member at Clyde Church of Christ, Woodlawn Church of Christ, and Baker Heights Church of Christ. During her years in the Dallas area she was faithful member at Lewisville Church of Christ.
Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her parents, husband Oscar Glenville Brown Sr.; sisters Lula Mae (Willis) Miller, and Betty Jean (Willis) Newton.
Survivors include her three children, George Brown and his wife, Dr. Jamie Hutton Brown of Carrolton; Oscar G. Brown Jr. of Dallas; Betsey Brown Bargainer of Round Rock; and grandchildren Benjamin Bargainer, Abby Bargainer, Delaney Brown and Makena Brown as well as countless nephews, nieces and cousins of the Tedford, Beale, and Willis Families.
The Children request memorials be made to Tipton Children’s Home in Tipton Oklahoma.
