Nancy Allene LeMay, born in Coleman, Texas to Albert Edwin LeMay and Theatus Allene Johnston on January 14, 1948. She attended Coleman High School where she was a cheerleader, graduating in 1966. She went on to McMurry University earning her BA in Education in 1970 while being a cheerleader and a member of Delta Beta Epsilon.
She lived in Abilene and taught art and English at Abilene High School, Franklin, and Lincoln. While at Abilene High, she was one of the Cheerleader sponsors making many Friday night bus trips to football games. After moving her family to Lewisville, she worked for the Lewisville ISD most recently teaching at Marcus High School where she taught art. She loved teaching an art class to Advanced Placement (AP) students who were wanting to make art their profession. Her art classes were always welcoming to the artistic and sometimes troubled students. Her teaching career spanned 32 years.
Nancy had many interests. She was an accomplished gardener, having worked for a plant nursery after she retired from teaching. She was an avid reader and a wonderful cook. She loved to travel visiting Ireland, Italy, Lake Tahoe, and cruises to Jamaica and the Yucatan. Above all else was her love of Scottish Terriers. Her last Scottie was named Abbey, who preceded her in death. Nancy married Jim Raffel on October 9, 2004, in San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by both her parents Ed LeMay and Theatus LeMay. She is survived by her two sons Geoff Noll of Lajitas, TX and Chris Noll and wife Petra of Melissa, Texas, twin granddaughters, Lily and Beca Noll of Melissa, TX, grandson Zachary Noll of Lajitas, TX, Husband Jim Raffel of Abilene, Sister in Law Roberta Churchin of Kendalia, TX, stepson Peter Raffel and partner Alicia Houston of San Antonio, step granddaughter Hadley Houston and step grandson Kannon Raffel also of San Antonio.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (act.alz.org). Nancy was surrounded by exceptional caregivers at Wisteria Place Legacy Lane. A sincere thanks for their compassion, respect and understanding of Nancy’s health and emotional needs.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, April 18 th , 2023 in the Chapel at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St., with a reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be offered to the family online at www.pbfuneraldirectors.com.
