Martha Charlene Kerr

Martha Charlene Kerr, 91 of Abilene, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 10, 2023.  A visitation with the family will be on Monday, August 14, 2023 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.  A private family service will be in the chapel of the funeral home on Tuesday, August 15 at 11:00 a.m.

Martha was born in Strawn, Texas on October 31, 1931 to John and Roxie Humberson.  She completed high school and a nursing program and worked as an LVN for many years in hospitals, nursing homes and doctor’s offices.  On April 29, 1948, she married J.T. Kerr in Fort Worth.  They later moved to Amarillo and were there for 28 years before coming to Abilene in 1984.  Martha and J.T. were members of the Baker Heights Church of Christ.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, husband J.T. and grandson Zachary Edwards.  She is survived by her daughters Donna Kerr and Rhonda Brooks of Abilene, grandchildren Misty Edwards of Abilene, Christal Ferris of San Diego, California, Jerron Brooks of Abilene and Jordan Brooks of Abilene; great grandchildren Dakota Gilbreath of Abilene, Arizona Butler of Abilene, Roxie Ferris of San Diego, Hendrix Ferris of San Diego, Charlotte Ferris of San Diego and Layla Garcia Brooks; and great-great grandchildren Christian McDonald, Acelynn Hillyard, Olivia Butler and Kai Butler.
