Mark Rogers

June 26, 1981 — March 13, 2021

Our family, friends, and community lost a pillar of strength, a servant leader, and a ray of sunshine upon the passing of Mark Hunter Rogers. Mark died on March 13 th , 2021 at 39 years of age in a motor vehicle accident.

A memorial service will be held in the auditorium at Southern Hills Church of Christ, 3666 Buffalo Gap Rd at 10:00 am May 15, 2021.  If you are unable to attend, the service will also be streamed at https://sohillschurch.org/live .

Mark was born on June 26 th , 1981 in Fort Worth, Texas. He grew up in Plano, Texas, and graduated from Plano Senior High School in 1999. He attended Abilene Christian University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism Marketing and Communications in 2003. Mark also earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Management from West Texas A&M in 2011.

Mark married Jenn (Barker) Rogers on December 28 th , 2002. Mark also had three children that he loved beyond measure. Haelyn was born in 2009, Hope was born in 2010, and Hunter was born in 2013.

Mark was multi-talented. He started his professional career in broadcasting. Mark was a Sports Reporter turned Sports Director for KTXS News in Abilene. He went on to work for Hendrick Hospital as the Director of Children’s Miracle Network and later as the Physician Recruiter. After leaving Hendrick, Mark returned to his alma mater and worked at Abilene Christian University as an Advancement Officer for several years. Mark left Abilene Christian University to take on the role of West Central Texas Market President for Big Brothers Big Sisters Lonestar. Mark was also the co-campus minister with his wife Jenn at Southern Hills Church of Christ in Abilene.

Mark adored the Abilene community. He was always looking for ways to give back with his time and service. Mark served on the United Way of Abilene board for many years. He was also a member of Kiwanis. On Friday nights during the Fall you could turn on the radio and hear Mark’s unforgettable voice announcing for the Abilene High Eagle football team. Mark also enjoyed reading, camping with his children, and mountain biking with anyone who would join him.

Mark is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jenn Rogers, and his three children Haelyn, Hope, and Hunter Rogers. Other surviving family members are his parents, Melissa and Urban Rogers; his brother Brad Rogers, sister-in-law Cassie Rogers, and niece Annalyse Rogers; his brother Jeff Rogers, sister-in-law Allison Rogers, niece Evelyn Rogers, and nephew Ryan Rogers; his in-laws Debra and Randy Barker; and his brother-in-law Ryan Barker.
