Marilyn Norma Brannon, 77 of Abilene, passed away at her home on October 17, 2021, after battling genetic cancer.
Marilyn was born in Port Arthur, Texas on July 17, 1944, to Norma Pauline and William Lewis Rizer. She graduated from Abilene Christian College with a Bachelor's degree in Education.
Marilyn was an educator at heart with a career spanning 30 years. She taught middle school Reading for 20 years with AISD. After official retirement, she thoroughly enjoyed teaching art to homeschool students for 8 years in her home studio. As a committed member of Hillcrest Church of Christ, she taught third graders in children’s Bible Class, as well as Ladies Bible class, for many years. An artist at heart, Marilyn loved singing. She was a member of the Hillcrest Singers for 14 years, volunteering her time and using her talents to serve others. Marilyn and her late husband, Toler, received the Sybil Faubus Award for their outstanding contributions to the Children’s Education Ministry.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Toler and two sons, Markie and Rob. She is survived by her son Dan Short and wife Aimee, daughters, Gina Meyer, Vanessa Drennan, Angie Coleman and husband Todd, 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; a sister-in-love, Ann Rizer, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Hillcrest Church of Christ on Friday, October 29 th at 11:00 am for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Christian Service Center.
