Marianita Vela

Marianita Vela, 53 of Abilene, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017.  Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.  A visitation with the family will be on Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marianita was born in Haskell, Texas on August 16, 1963 to Leo and Angelita Vela.  She grew up in Rochester, Texas before moving to Abilene.  Marianita was a loving sister and mother and a devoted grandmother to her 9 grandchildren.

Marianita was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ruben Salinas.  She is survived by son, Abel Hernandez and wife Jessica of Haskell; and daughter Amanda Santiago and husband Valente of Waco and Felicia Hernandez of Abilene; brothers Thomas and Leo Salinas and Eddie and Sammy Vela; sisters Susan, Juanita and AnnaMaria Salinas, Christina Vela and Letty Rodriguez; and her grandchildren, Ezequiel Hernandez, Valentina and Chimmy Angel Santiago, Xavier, Mya, Darian and Niko Hernandez, Carman Casares and Fabian Hernandez.
