Malbyrn Lea Winter

November 28, 1926 — March 1, 2018

Malbyrn Lea (Everhard) Winter, 91, of Abilene, Texas, formerly of Neosho, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018. A local visitation and service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday March 3 rd at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St in Abilene. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 6, at 2:00 p.m., at Park Plaza Christian Church, Joplin. A 1:00 p.m. visitation will precede the service, also at Park Plaza Christian Church.   A private family graveside service will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors in Abilene and Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, Missouri.

Malbyrn was born in Marshall, Missouri to Mark and Lila (Cohu) Everhard on November 28, 1926. She graduated from Diamond High School where she met her husband, Elza Winter, Jr. They were married on June 12, 1945, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and celebrated 72 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and was integrally involved in the family cattle business for many years. Malbyrn was a member of the Gideons Auxiliary, Spring River Christian Village Auxiliary (Joplin, Missouri), The Friendly Neighbors Club, and Newton County Farm Bureau. She was a faithful member of the Park Plaza Christian Church in Joplin and while in Abilene she attended the Minter Lane Church of Christ.

Malbyrn was preceded in death by her parents, Mark and Lila Everhard. She is survived by her husband, Elza Winter, of Abilene, a daughter Alice A. Keith (Rev. Ronald Keith) of Lakeville, Minnesota, sons Dr. Thomas L. Winter (Sherla) of Abilene, Dr. Mark L. Winter of Spur, Texas, and sisters Patsy Melton of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Janice Leslie of Houston, Texas, Anne Sayles of Montesano, Washington, and Kay Carrothers of Renton, Washington, and a brother, Paul Everhard of Nicholasville, Kentucky; and one uncle, Maurice Cohu, Jr., Neosho. She will be greatly missed by her many grandchildren, great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

The Family wishes to thanks Dr. Samantha Hirsch Goodman, Dr. Tommie Farrell, Hendrick Hospice nurses and caregivers, and most especially the loving staff and her friends at Chisholm Place, Abilene, Texas.
