Lugene Lewis

November 4, 1930 — September 22, 2022

LuGene Lewis, 91 of Abilene, passed away at her home on Thursday September 22, 2022.  A service will be held Monday September 26th at 10:00 am in the auditorium of Hillcrest Church of Christ with Nathan Burrow officiating.  A graveside service at Elmwood Memorial Park will follow.  Visitation with the family will be held Sunday afternoon from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St

LuGene Bentley Lewis, 91 years old, passed from this world on September 22, 2022 and joined numerous family members including parents Wesley Andrew Bentley Sr. and Juanice Blakeley Bentley, brother Wesley Andrew Bentley, Jr., son David Earl Lewis and granddaughter Brianna Allison Green.  She is survived by sisters, Patty M. Jones, Judy Mayo, brother Tommy Bentley, children, Sharon P. Ball, Jennie J. Baker, Kenneth R. Lewis and his wife Cathy, daughter in law, Marilyn Lewis as well as 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

LuGene’s favorite Bible verse was John 14:1-4.  She was born in Fort Worth, Texas on November 4 th , 1930.   She attended ACC in the 1950’s where she met the love of her life, Roy Lewis.  They were married on June 11 th , 1950 in Quinlen, Texas at Boles Home.

Her interest included her dog Tony of 11 years who was at her side until the end, she loved cooking and did it competitively at the West Texas Fair. (She dominated most divisions). She also took up wedding cake decorating, China painting, painting on canvas, knitting, crochet and even painting on shirts at the age of 90.

Some of LuGene’s accomplishments included 18 years of service at ACU’s Central Files of which the last years were as the Supervisor.  She held several prestigious positions such as President of Kiwanis Club of Abilene, President of American Business Women’s Association, President of the Big Country Porcelain Art Guild.  She loved to fish, enjoyed telling jokes and singing funny songs to all but especially to the grandchildren to bring a smile to their faces. She was a faithful and active member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.
