Lloyd Clinton Marr

June 11, 1935 — October 30, 2021

Lloyd Clinton Marr, 86, passed from this life on Saturday October 30th, 2021. Lloyd was born to Luther and Teresa (Grantham) on June 11th, 1935 in Stamford, Texas. He moved to Orange, Texas, during World War II while his father worked for the war effort building ships. He grew up in Swenson and Hamlin and served in the United States Army at Fort Chaffee near Fort Smith, Arkansas. Lloyd was in the Abilene High School marching band where he played the baritone and was a lifelong Eagles fan. The band and the football team won state championships for all three seasons he was in high school. He attended Abilene Christian University.

Lloyd was a hard and vigorous worker, selling auto parts, wedding photography, detailing autos, jewelry sales and various entrepreneurial activities. He was energetic with the vitality of a younger man. The highlight of his childhood summers was getting to go visit his beloved grandparents who he idealized on the family farm. He also treasured his time playing Cowboys and Indians all over the acreage and especially along the salt fork of the Brazos river.

His grandparents were spiritually influential and instilled a love of Bible study. He was an itinerant evangelist beginning in the 1950’s when he brought home a stranger and began to teach the Bible. In his lifetime, there is no telling how many souls he brought to the Lord. He was instrumental in the Single Again ministry sponsored by Highland church of Christ. He volunteered teaching Bible at the 180 House, a home for recovering addicts, where he served as chaplain. He also was active in the Big Brothers/Sisters program.

He was married to Carolyn Hampton until 1979. Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Carmoncita, and his daughter Sherry. He is survived by two sons, Rob and Thomas, a daughter, Cara, and several grandchildren, 4 nieces, Juanita Bussell, of Royersford, Pennsylvania, Melissa, Darlene, and Teresa, as well as a special friend, Mary Anne Ray,
