Linda Herrera Zarate

Linda Herrera Zarate, 49 of Abilene, passed away on Monday January 1st, 2024 while surrounded by her loving family.  A visitation will be held on Thursday January 4th from 6-7 pm with a Rosary following at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St.  A funeral mass will be held on Friday January 5th, at 10:00 am at St. Vincent Pallotti Catholic Church.

Linda was born on June 22, 1974 to Lazaro Herrera and Rosa Leal, in Rockford, Illinois.  She moved with her family to Abilene when she was a young girl. .  She attended Abilene High School and graduated in 1992. On June 10th, 1993, Linda married Eric Zarate, her junior high school sweetheart. They continued living in Abilene where they raised their family. Linda enjoyed working at Wild Bills Pawn Shops and Kents Harley-Davidson. She was never shy to make friends, she was energetic and full of life. She was known as a mother-hen and very nurturing.  She loved to spend time with her grandchildren. The sight of them always put a smile on her face. She would spoil them by giving them heart-felt hugs ‘n kisses and cooking their favorite meals.

Surviving Linda is her devoted husband Eric Zarate, her children, Eric Nicholas (Nick) Zarate, Everette Nathaniel (Nate) Zarate (Jennifer Siera Flores), grandchildren Elena Zarate, Jeremiah Leonidas Zarate, Everett Niko Zarate, Her mother Rosa Devora (husband Jesse Devora Sr.), her father Lazaro Herrera (wife Carmela Herrera), her brothers and sisters Leon Herrera (wife Ann Herrera), Jesse Devora Jr. (Nancy Barcenas), Sonia Harless (husband Kyle Harless), Lacey Devora, Monica Herrera, Jessica Gomez (husband Matthew Gomez), Jessica Devora (Chris Ramos).  Numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving grandparents.

Linda and Eric’s never-ending love for each created a strong bond.  They worked hard together and created a beautiful family which will live on forever.
