Laura M. Brock

Laura Mahalie Brock, 85, of Abilene, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018.  A memorial service to celebrate her wonderful life will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in the family room of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Laura was born on November 18, 1932 in Rome, Georgia to James Monroe and Lauranie Elizabeth Brock.  She was the youngest of 13 children.  Laura grew up in Subligna, Georgia, moving to New Mexico in 1965.  Life eventually brought her to Abilene where she worked in the hotel industry.  Upon retirement, because she loved people, she became a Wal-Mart greeter and was later promoted to the Fabrics Department.  Yet again she changed careers and joined the family at Windcrest Nursing Home where she served as Activities Coordinator.

Her passion for others was evident as she lived out Ephesians 4:32 “Be ye kind one to another, tender-hearted forgiving each other, EVEN as God in Christ forgave you.”

She instilled the importance of treating others as you wanted to be treated.  She was a Proverbs 31 woman who taught her children to Love the Lord first, then family, and to work as is pleasing unto the Lord.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents and by her husband, Daniel Leon Johns, Sr.  She is survived by her children, Shirley McMillan and husband David, Elaine Hall, Faye Dodson and husband Tommy and Daniel Johns and wife Jill.  She is also survived by her grandchildren; Tami Kirby and husband Ricky, Travis Dodson, Zeke Mooney, Jason Dodson and wife Margie, Becky Farrar, Kyndra Newbrough and husband JoKirk, Patrick Mooney, Kaycee Robertson and husband Randy, Amanda McKee and husband Ryan and Brock Johns and wife Lindsey, plus 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
