Larry Carter, age 77, passed away on July 19, 2024. A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 29th at 11:00 am at Logsdon Chapel on the Hardin-Simmons University campus.
Larry was born in Greeneville, TN to Lawrence and Eva Carter on June 1, 1947. He moved to Vandalia, OH as a child and graduated from Vandalia Butler High School. After graduating from high school, he attended Ohio State University. Larry made his way to Arlington, Texas to attend Arlington Baptist Seminary and later worked on a degree in accounting at UT Arlington. While pursuing a golf career and competing at different levels, Larry was an assistant golf pro at Las Colinas Country Club. He worked for Minyards Corporation from 1984 through 1998 until he purchased BG Golf Enterprises and continued running his golf company until his retirement in 2020. Larry married Linda on August 14, 1999. They moved to Abilene in 2015 to be closer to friends and family.
Larry enjoyed playing golf, singing, attending Hardin-Simmons University events, and spending time with his family. He was an active member of Berry Lane Baptist Church. Larry's greatest love was for the Lord and sharing that love with everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his father Lawrence Carter, mother Eva Carter, and sister Peggy Riggsby.
Larry is survived by his wife of almost 25 years, Linda Carter, son Matthew Carter and his wife Kristin, Step-daughters Amanda Young and husband David, Laura Chaney and husband Bill, 7 grandchildren (Austin, Madison, and Jackson Young, Grant and Weston Chaney, Gabriel and Gavin Carter), and two great-grandchildren (Emma and Easton Young), along with countless friends.
