It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to our brother, uncle, and friend. Larry Glen Bilbrey born July 2, 1953, in Abilene, Texas the third child of Bennie L. Bilbrey and Ophelia J. (Park) Bilbrey.
Larry graduated from Cooper High School in 1971. Then attended McMurry University where he continued to make lifelong buddies and friends in Chi Omicron, XO. He later fulfilled one long-time dream of flying by obtaining his pilot license at TSTC in Waco, Texas.
Larry moved to Austin in about 1974. He loved the fast pace, free-living style of the growing capital city. Living in Austin was a great period of his life and he always said that was his favorite time.
Larry moved back to Abilene and later started working for the transportation department of Abilene ISD in 2006. He really liked his interaction with all the kids, especially the very little ones that called him “Mr Larry”. Larry was known to don a Christmas elf’s cap during the holidays, and with his white beard and hair, his rotund belly, he really looked the part of Santa so lots of little ones thought he was. Larry took pride in being a bus driver and missed very few days of work (if any) until his illness made that an impossibility.
Larry loved all his nieces and great nieces and nephews. He is notorious for gifting candy Dots and Disney Sing-Along tapes. He would often sit with his two younger nieces when they were small and he was their “Uncle Buck”.
Larry was a life-long avid reader, movie and live performance enthusiast and a sports fan of all kinds. He loved his motorcycles, sports cars including his newest acquisition - a BMW sports car. He was a snow skier, played lots of yard volleyball in Austin, enjoyed traveling and getting together with friends and family (especially for a meal) and playing poker with his friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his brother Garland Bilbrey (Sue) of Fort Worth and sister JoVern Johnson (Gerald) of Abilene. Nieces Tammy Crawford (Tim) of Fort Worth, Amy Galvan of Fort Worth, Megan Sepulveda (Yerko) of Charleston, South Carolina, Kristen Balliew (Slone) of Abilene. Step nieces and nephews Stephen Baker of Fort Worth, Clay Johnson of Keller, Texas, Shelby Rogers of Gig Harbor, Washington and Alyssa Roden (Ryan) of Keller, Texas.
15 Great nieces and nephews and 1 great-great niece.
And a number of good friends.
