Kathleen Ann Bruce

Kathleen Ann Bruce, 76 of Abilene, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 28, 2022.  A visitation and memorial service will be on Friday, March 4, 2022 at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.  The visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. in the Family Room and the memorial service will immediately follow the visitation in the Chapel.

Kathleen was born in Fairfield, Illinois on October 23, 1945 to Herbert and Doris Johnson.  She moved to Texas as a young child, graduated from Cooper High School, then worked for the city of Abilene in the Business and Personal Property Appraisal office. Kathleen married Terry Michael Bruce on August 12, 1967.  A few years later, they started a family and raised their girls in both Abilene and Chalmette, Louisiana.  No matter where she resided, Katy was always active in her girls’ lives. Through the years, she served as a Brownie troop leader and a chauffeur for whatever activities her girls were involved.

Katy LOVED animals, especially Clydesdale horses and her Airedales. According to her, there was no such thing as visiting the zoo too much.  No matter the distance, Katy was always up for a road trip to visit family in other states or attend the various food festivals celebrated in and around New Orleans.  Katy was resilient. No matter the circumstance, even when life was turned upside down, she did not surrender; she approached it with grace and a sense of humor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Doris Johnson and her husband, Terry Bruce.  Survivors include her daughters Renee Bruce and Stephanie Hammer, and  son-in-law, Todd Hammer of Abilene, sisters Janie Proctor and Sharon Proctor of Abilene and grandchildren Hayden Hammer, Michael Dalley and Tracy Dalley. She also enjoyed spending time with her numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
