Karla Lyn Martin

Karla Lyn Martin, 61, of Abilene passed away on Thursday, March 21st, 2024.

Visitation will be at South 11th and Willis Church of Christ in Abilene on Thursday, March 28th, 2024 from 5-7 in the evening. The family will hold a private celebration of life service at a later date.

Karla was born in Abilene, TX on February 18th, 1963. She graduated from Cooper High School and went on to earn a Bachelors of Arts degree from Abilene Christian University. She married Joby Martin on October 10th, 1987 in Abilene, TX. She worked as the administrative assistant for the history department at Abilene Christian University and later worked as a records clerk for the Taylor County Sheriff's Office until her passing. She loved to crochet in her spare time and would often give her creations to friends and family. She also loved cooking and baking, sharing her meals and treats as well, especially with her grandchildren. She was an excellent caretaker for her family throughout her life, especially for her mother and her husband. Karla and Joby were members of South 11th and Willis Church of Christ for over 20 years.

Karla was preceded in death by her parents, Billie Ray and Leslie Smith, her sister Karen Smith, and her brother Kevin Smith.

Karla is survived by her husband of 36 years, Joby Martin of Abilene, TX, daughter Rachel & Christopher Moxley of Wichita Falls, and Michael Martin of Abilene, TX. Grandchildren include Wyatt Martin of Abilene, TX and Allison & Abigail Moxley of Wichita Falls, TX. Cousins include Tony & Jennifer Mays, Andy Mays, Kenneth & Valerie Havins, Kathy & Danny Smith, Minerva & Bill Caudill, Martha & David Ladyman, Eric and Cynthia Awwad, and Mary & Daniel Huber.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors & nurses that cared for her during her final days. They would also like to thank the congregation at South 11th & Willis Church of Christ for their generosity and hospitality. Finally, a special thanks to Piersall Funeral Home for their assistance and kindness during this difficult time.
