Julia Hampton Stabler, 78 of Abilene, passed away peacefully at Hendrick Hospice Care Center on Saturday November 4th, 2023. A visitation will be held on Wednesday November 8th from 4-6 pm at Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut St. A service will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 am in the Chapel of the funeral home with a burial to follow at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Abilene.
Julia was born in Springfield, Missouri on January 31st, 1945, to Cordelia and Charles Brasher. She lived in Mt. Vernon, Missouri for a short time and then moved to Abilene with her mother. After her mother married Jerry Hampton, who later adopted her, she moved many different places but graduated from high school in Childress, Texas.
After moving back to Abilene, Julia went to work for the Abilene Police Department in 1968 as a clerk typist. She later took calls for the department and ultimately retired in 1996 after nearly 30 years.
Brookhollow Christian Church was a big part of the Stablers life. Julia and her husband James were very active there along with their two children. Julia was a loving Christian woman who served her God, family and community faithfully until her death.
Surviving Julia are her husband James Stabler, daughter Marie Stabler, son Jimmy Stabler and wife Dianna, grandchildren, Patrick and Cynthia Stabler, Christian King and Nicole Harstan as well as her husband’s sister Mary Ehlert and her husband Terry and many nieces and nephews and close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
