John Louis Robinson of Lubbock, Texas died Wednesday, 10 August 2022 of leukemia in the Covenant Medical Center Palliative Care Unit. He was comforted by his wife Sharon, his children and their spouses, as well as several of his grandchildren.
John was born in Hightower Plantation, Arkansas on 17 October 1935 to Louis and Lucille Robinson. He and his mother moved around quite a bit until settling in Edinburg, Texas, where she married Joseph Elliott. John graduated from El Cerrito High School in El Cerrito, California. John served in the U.S. Air Force during the early 1950’s, stationed overseas in the Philippine Islands and other locations in the continental United States. After discharge, he attended Abilene Christian College in Abilene, Texas where he met the love of his life, Sharon Lee Sprague. They were married on 17 December 1959. John and Sharon had two sons, Matthew and Brian, spent four years in the Philippines as missionaries before John assumed the position of professor at Abilene Christian College, where he taught continually until 2010, with the exception of two years while he earned his PhD in Latin American History at Texas Christian University. After retirement, John and Sharon moved to Lubbock where he resided until his death.
John is survived by his spouse, Sharon, his sons Matthew and Brian, their wives Christy and Tiffany, and his grandchildren Christopher, Candace, Timothy, Gabby, Asher, Braeden, and Noble.
Services will be at Vandelia Church on 21 August 2022 immediately following the ten o’clock service. Instead of flowers, those who wish to donate should give their gift to the Sam’s Place ministry.
