It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jimmy Valdez, who left us too soon on April 2, 2025. Born on September 6, 1972, in Abilene, Texas, Jimmy spent his formative years in the small community of Merkel, where he graduated from Merkel High School. He was a beloved son, and a gifted artist-known for his creativity and skill as a welder as well as many other building skills he worked to develop through the years. His love for art was something that he developed as a small child in elementary school and quickly became a passion that impacted his entire life.
Jimmy's life was marked by his ability to adapt and excel in all that he pursued. A true Jack of all trades, he found joy in creating and building, whether it was in his professional life or through his artistic endeavors. Jimmy was a father to three beautiful children: Sage Valdez, Cedar Valdez, and Lily and Caden Darby, who will carry forward his spirit and creativity.
He is also survived by his loving mother, Gwen Sommers, and his father, Larry Sommers, who feel the profound loss of their son, whose laughter and artistry brought light to their lives. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jenny and his brother Larry.
In remembrance of Jimmy's life and the love he shared, a memorial service will be held on April 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Piersall Funeral Directors. We invite friends and family to gather, to honor and celebrate the beautiful moments and memories forged with Jimmy.
In this time of sorrow, let us come together to support one another and keep the spirit of Jimmy alive in our hearts. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him.
