Jesse was born in Dallas Texas on June 5, 1954. He grew up in Abilene Texas and traveled around Colorado and Texas as a steel erector working on several large structures along the way before settling in Dallas. Jesse loved to point out the buildings he had worked on around town and talk about ones in pictures he had taken. He enjoyed a challenge and was known to have many brain-bender wooden contraptions to keep you busy and always willing to test you with a game of dominoes.
Jesse was one of a kind. He had an attention to detail and persistence in all that he faced. After suffering an injury supposed to end him, he came back and lived a long life. He was hard on the outside, but always willing to open the door and welcomed many in over the years.
As a young man, Jesse was a champion golden-gloves boxer and spent time riding horses and roping. Later on he was known for his love of his recliner and watching old westerns. His love of these was shown in his lifelong, signature style of cowboy boots and a black leather vest.
Jesse enjoyed almost all music. His extensive cassette collection sparked many conversations over his five decades of sharing with all ages. He introduced each generation of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even great-great nieces and nephews to country music and always George Strait. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Jesse is survived by his daughter, Misty Ramirez (Javier) of Austin, Texas and five grandchildren that he adored: Sofia, Javier, Nadia, Lydia and Gjeva. He leaves behind four brothers: David Rodriguez (Eloise), Lorenzo Lopez (Rachel), Julian Lopez (Becky) and Tony Lopez (Sara); 4 sisters, Lupe Lopez, Esther Borrego (Sam), Angie Borrego (Armando), Rosemary Martinez (Alfred); and many, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Natividad Lopez; step-father, Julian Lopez; brothers: Joe Silvas and Benito Aranda; and sisters: Yolanda Perez and Natividad Aranda.
Our family would like to thank Nesa Love, Donna Bonenberger and all those behind the scenes at HomeInstead and Kindred for their wonderful care of our father, brother and uncle in his home.
I would like to thank my Grandma who passed, Rosemary, Natividad also in Heaven, Benita, their families and everyone else here who helped him be able to stay at home over the years. I also thank Javier for always allowing me to be so supportive of him, in the early years and now that has been different; but I’ve always been able to do what dad needed. His needs and his helpers changed. But with everyone’s help along the way, we were able to make it happen and I will forever be grateful to all that helped him be at home.
