Jerry Dwayne Owen

Jerry Dewayne Owen, 69 of Abilene, passed away on Monday, January 22, 2018.  Funeral service will be on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street .  Visitation will be Thursday, January 25, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jerry was born in Littlefield, Texas on April 19, 1948 to Julius and Sally Owen. Jerry graduated from Divide High School in Nolan, Texas in May of 1967 and two months later, he joined the U.S. Army. On March 9, 1968, he married his childhood sweetheart, Millie Hyde. One month later, he was deployed to Vietnam for a year. Following two years of service, Jerry was discharged from the Army and returned home. Jerry was a devoted husband and loving father. Jerry was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys football fan and also an avid golfer. In his golden years, he was fortunate enough to work and play at most of the golf courses in and around the Big Country. Jerry began working for Pop-A-Lock fifteen years ago and was very dedicated to the job. It was  always Jerry's nature to help a friend in need and he never met a stranger. Jerry loved his family and was very devoted to his grandchildren.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Sally Owen; his son Bobby F. Owen; brothers Donald and Bobby Owen and sister Evelyn Rivers.  He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Millie Owen and their children Stephanie Owen, John Owen and Ashley Owen; brother Doug Owen and wife Nan; grandchildren Justin, Derek and Maygan McDaniel; Tabitha, Emily and Zach Owen; Donevin, Daemien and Darrien Diggs; and great-grandchildren Evan and Jacob Mcdaniel and Elizabeth Riley.
