Jerry Don Aaron

Jerry Don Aaron, 85, of Rising Star, passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Abilene.  Arrangements are under the direction of Piersall Funeral Directors, 733 Butternut Street.

Jerry was born on November 6, 1939, in Rising Star, Texas to U.Z. and Veleta (Underwood) Aaron.  He graduated from Rising Star High School in 1958.  He attended Tarleton Junior College in Stephenville from 1959 – 1961, graduating with an associate’s degree.  He then attended North Texas State University in Denton from 1961-1963 and graduated with his bachelor’s degree.  He taught at Lubbock High School for 3 years, then returned to North Texas State to get his master’s degree in industrial arts.  He also pursued graduate studies at Texas Tech and started work on his doctorial degree at Syracuse University and East Texas State University.  During this time, Jerry taught at South Plains Junior College in Levelland.  In 1972, Jerry went into the cotton custom harvesting business.

On March 10, 1974, Jerry was united in marriage to Haldayne Tyus Hamrick in Comanche, Texas.  They worked side by side in grain custom harvesting for 46 years.  He retired in 2020 but continued their small cattle operation.  He was a wonderful husband and father and was a member of the Cross Plains Church of Christ.

Jerry is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Haldayne Aaron of Rising Star; sister-in-law Pat Tyus of Dublin; sister-in-law Kim Metsgar of Early; three nephews, Billy Jack Tyus and wife Heidi of Plano, Roy Lyman and wife Helen of Dublin, and Paul Calvin and wife Lindsay Tyus of Paluxy, Texas, and their children.  He was preceded in death by a son, Darwin Glenn Aaron in 1979, his parents U.Z. and Veleta Aaron, and brother-in-law Billy Jack Tyus in 2022.
